Judges Needed for Science Fairs

Each spring, volunteers from the American Institute of Aeronautics & Astronautics National Capital Section (AIAA NCS) judge aerospace-related projects at local regional high school science fairs, awarding thousands of dollars of prizes annually – including a week at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center’s Space Camp / Aviation Challenge (http://www.spacecamp.com). Over the past decade, NCS has expanded the number of science fairs to include the entire scope of the section’s geographic domain - from the shores of the Chesapeake Bay to the border of West Virginia.

This spring – thanks to the generous sponsorship of BAE Systems, The Campbell Marketing Group, Integrity Applications, Lockheed Martin and Modern Technology Solutions – AIAA NCS members will again be judging all eight DC-area regional science fairs, providing prizes valued at over $13,000. Although we already have enough judges for several of the fairs, we urgently still need one or more judges for these locations:

o Charles County Science Fair – March 1

o Northern Virginia (Arlington/Alexandria/Falls Church) – March 8

o Prince William-Manassas Regional Science Fair – March 8

o District of Columbia Mathematics, Science and Technology Fair – March 15

o Prince George's Area Science Fair – March 29 Judging is conducted in teams of three; materials and guidance are provided.

Please consider spending a few hours of your time to help inspire the future generation of the nation’s best and brightest scientist and engineers. If interested, please contact Mike Hirschberg at aiaancs.sciencefair@comcast.net (or 571-218-4417). Note also that sponsorships are still available.
