The purpose of the DATC is to provide a forum for the exchange of new knowledge in digital avionics among professionals and students in the fields of commercial, military and general aviation and space applications. The DATC serves the needs and professional interests of AIAA members and promotes through progressive projects and meetings their contributions and achievements in the arts, sciences and technology of aeronautics and astronautics.

The goals of the DATC include:
  • To provide a forum for free discussion of new ideas, research, development and applications in order to stimulate and inspire pioneering work.
  • To serve the needs of the constituents of the AIAA community we support towards their individual interests and professional growth.
  • To provide a national meeting in the area of avionics that will further the progress of AIAA entities, including other Technical Committees and local Sections and thereby better serve the interests of all AIAA members and community at large.
The major activities of the DATC include:
  • Provide policy direction and key personnel for the Digital Avionics Systems Conference (DASC) through the DASC Executive Committee (DEC) - click text or theme logo image to go to the site:
  • Provide policy direction and key personnel to the Integrated Communication, Navigation and Surveillance Systems Conference through the ICNS Executive Committee - click text or theme logo image below to go to site :
  • Provide support to the AIAA Information Systems Group and the AIAA Infotech at Aerospace Conference - click text or theme logo image link to go to the site: 
  • Provide educational programs by sponsoring workshops, sessions, tutorials and other conferences and by sponsoring college scholarships through the AIAA.
  • Facilitate review and publishing of digital avionics articles.
  • Advocate policy to AIAA on digital avionics topics of national interest.
  • Promote understanding of standardization, integration, technological and other issues important to digital avionics systems.
  • Coordinate with other professional societies and educational institutions.
  • Honor technical contributors through awards, nominations for fellows, and membership upgrades.
  • Broaden the member participation base and professional development through creation and use of digital avionics subcommittees within the full committee.

 Also, the DATC now has a Media Representative. A Media Representative is a Technical Expert and Member of the DATC Committee, who is available to speak to the media, should the media request help in a particular technical area, in this case Digital Avionics. The DATC  Media Representative is :

Vote for the Future of Your Institute—Polls Open! Proposed Governance Changes and Slate of BOD Candidates on Ballot As a voting AIAA Member, you have the opportunity to be a vital part of shaping your Institute’s future. For 2016, important proposed governance changes and an outstanding slate of Board of Directors candidates are included on the ballot. Many of you have heard about the proposed, amended Constitution up for a vote this election cycle during your TC meeting over the past year. Members of the Board of Directors, Governance Working Group (GWG), and Headquarters Staff visited scores of TCs during forums to explain the reasons why the changes are necessary and what is at stake in this vote. But if you weren’t able to attend a meeting or hear about the proposed governance changes, you can visit http://www.aiaa.org/governance. This webpage is a comprehensive resource for members to educate themselves about the proposed changes. It provides a history and overview of the two-year governance project, compares the current and proposed constitutions, answers frequently asked questions, and includes links to all the information that has been published on the proposed governance changes to date. Another opportunity to learn about what’s on the ballot is the complete Election Guide, which has probably already arrived in your email box. It’s available at www.aiaa.org/vote if you haven’t receive it yet. We encourage you to review this material, and cast your vote. Certificates of merit for best papers are an important recognition activity at each Forum. Technical Committees need to submit the author/s name, paper number and paper title to AIAA at carols@aiaa.org 60 days prior to the start date of the Forum.
